THE THEME SONG FOR THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP STINKS AI

How not to use AI in your next big event

If you haven't heard the new theme song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup yet, don't listen. Not that the song is bad, but because it's completely wrong:

A copy of Queen's "We Will Rock You" with Rag'n'Bones' "Human" – composed by AI with prompts from Wesley Safadão.

Zero World Cup atmosphere – whoever made it has never watched a football game in a stadium (or on a big-screen TV). Theoretically, it's two rappers (one American and one Mexican) with a Canadian DJ. They must have watched a lacrosse game at most.

The lyrics, which supposedly combine cultural elements from the three countries, talk about liberation from slavery (Now them chains don't rattle no more, Good Lord, I'm feeling lighter). It goes on like that until the end. Either this theme is 140 years out of date, or it's totally disconnected from the world (it's a huge illusion to say that slavery ended or will end because of a football championship). Anyway, what does this have to do with football in 2026?

The title, Lighter, is completely disconnected from any football terminology. And it doesn't say anything, let's be honest, about any sport.

The music has no emotion (in fact, the emotion is more about suffering, exhaustion, than excitement, celebration), no punch, no crowd chant, no catchy riff, nothing. Just a melody that repeats indefinitely with a guitar that's good for a Car Demolition. I love Blues/Country guitar, but they aimed at the wrong event.

They tried to create a simple melodic structure, but included a bridge that no longer exists in current music. A shame (I like bridges), but it doesn't make sense in this case and only shows that they didn't even bother to remove that from the prompt (which automatically generates a structure identical to the one used, with the bridge and everything).

It was clearly made with Artificial Intelligence - and that's the subject I most want to discuss.

It didn't take me more than 2 seconds to realize the music was made by AI, and not because I've made over 200 songs like that, but because it's obvious to anyone who likes music. And not for any good reason. You can tell it's AI because they used the most basic prompt, without imagination, without creativity, without originality. It's AI at its worst possible execution. Moreover, the sound quality is deplorable. Everything that AI can offer in terms of resources was forgotten, and they stuck with the basic package. If it were less than 30 seconds, I'd say the music used a free version of Suno.

I find it hard to believe that the music is the work of 3 artists and that they tried to create something great. There's nothing great about it, not in the lyrics, not in the interpretation, not in the arrangement, and not in the theme. You might even like the song, and that's a matter of taste. The question is: how relevant is this song to the World Cup? What chant will the fans get? What catchy chorus will people be singing on the field?

I estimate that this song took 10 minutes to create, produce, and finalize. That's because they had to record the voices of both rappers. But they didn't even edit the vocals separately to add more emotion. One recorded the vocals, sent it to the other, who completed it, and they sent it to the DJ, who was on vacation and decided to play Suno while preparing a drink. He took the final result and charged FIFA millions.

Either FIFA broke the record for the most time-sensitive request (I need the song ready in 10 minutes), or what was done makes absolutely no sense. It's a disservice to music and to AI. To prove this, I made 6 songs (2 versions of each), and the last one, at least in my opinion and that of some people who listened, is much more suitable than this FIFA "masterpiece". Doubt it? Feel free to comment on the video with your opinion. It would be very interesting if this discussion gained momentum. Using AI is a resource for those who don't have a band, as is my case, or for those who want to improve what they produce, not to pick the pockets of a client with full pockets and zero feeling.

Without wanting to make any comparisons, especially since nobody asked, what I wanted to show is that it's possible to make a song and lyrics of minimal quality with good will and knowledge. And I'm not even a football expert. But I understand what the emotion of football and winning a World Cup means. After all, we've already won 5 and I've watched at least 3 live.
